While the Convention and Act-based refugee definitions refer to the same grounds, the de-linking of the Convention definition from the legislative definition means that for post 16 December applications, these are no longer properly referred to as ‘Convention grounds’, ‘Convention reasons’ or having a ‘Convention nexus’.
